Noguchi Kansai
Biography
Born in Fukuoka, Japan in 1982. In 2013 Noguchi moved to the USA to study music. Influenced by the works of Isamu Noguchi, he decided to pursue a career as an artist and returned to Japan, where he studied sculpture as an assistant at a pottery studio.?
In 2016 he established his own studio, "KANSAI NOGUCHI STUDIO," in Tama City, Tokyo. In 2019 he held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo, and has since continued to hold solo exhibitions and shows at various venues across the city. He later relocated to Hachioji, where he currently lives and works in his home studio.
Noguchi's work blends minimalist modern forms and classical antiquity (including ancient Greek and prehistoric Japanese J?mon pottery traditions) with the earthy rawness of traditional Japanese yakishime (high-fired, unglazed stoneware). Yakishime allows the natural texture, grain, and mineral characteristics of the clay body to define the aesthetic of the vessel rather than surface glazes.
